New Park

The City finally cleaned up the area next to our apartment and made a nice park.  It is not like our parks at home but it is such an improvement over what was there before.

Water is running through these.

Ice Cream Truck

Tommy, Martha, David and I went driving around yesterday and found a plant place.  While we were there buying plants the ice cream truck came by.  This is the first time we have seen one of these in Malaysia.  Just to let you know we bought three ceramic pots, two plants, four small bags of dirt and it cost us $13.00.  They also plant the flowers for you.   At least some things are cheap over here.

Canteloupe

We went to Hock Choon yesterday and found a canteloupe that came from California.  It was wonderful thank goodness because it cost $10.00.  Groceries are way too expensive over here!!

Monsoon Season

Monsoon season has started in Malaysia.  Here are a few pictures taken from our apartment today.  We have had so much rain  in the month of October that the City is predicting they will have to close the tunnels to traffic and open them for the water to flow out of the city.

Tidbit

Total number of registered cars in Malaysia as of 2011 --- 9,721,447. There is probably double that number of motorcycles.

Norwegian Seafood Gala Dinner

David and I were invited to this dinner that was put on by the Norwegian Embassy.  It was held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel across the street from our apartment.  I did not take my camera and I do regret it so much. The food display was incredible.  I did not know at the time who I was meeting but it turned out to be the Ambassador of Norway.  He later told David that he had met his wife.  They flew a chef in from Norway and he and the chef at the Mandarin along with about 30 other chefs prepared the dinner.  There was smoked salmon variations (to say the least), a caviar station, sushi and sashimi, seafood appetizers and of course desserts.  David loved the king crab legs, shrimp and lobster.  I on the other hand found the rice and some fish that I knew for sure was cooked.
There was entertainment provided by Adibah Noor.  She is a Malaysian singer and actress. We had a very nice evening and maybe next time I will remember to take my camera.

Shopping Trip

I know it has been a long time since my last post but there is just not anything going on.  We did go shopping last weekend. David and I had talked about we would like to purchase a piece of furniture from here to take home. We were thinking we could find something made in Malaysia but it did not happen.  These two pieces that we purchased were made in Pakistan and were hand made (so they say).

This piece is sitting in front of the window so it is not as bright as it appears.

David really liked this roll top desk.
