David's Birthday
We took David across the street to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel to have dinner. We love to go to the restaurant that is pool side.
Notice the reflection of the twin towers in the hotel.

Earthquake
By now most of your have heard that there was an earthquake in Indonesia. Not a big deal because we are in Malaysia, but David just happen to be in Indonesia that day. Of course when I got on the internet and saw the "breaking news" I panicked. I got a map and tried to find the place where the quake was but could not tell how far it was from Jarkarta. So to keep from crying, I called Dan to see if he knew anything about it. He did not but he called David and told him to call home immediately. David was fine, did not even feel anything. He did tell me they were about 1,100 miles from the earthquake. I then talked with Mary and she actually felt movement on the 31st floor. The news had said that people felt it in Singapore and Malaysia, especially in high rise apartments. The most important thing is that we are both okay. I will keep you posted on what happens next week.

New King
Today is a holiday because the new King of Malaysia is being installed. His name is Tuanka Abdul Halim. He is the first king to ascend the throne for the second time in his life. He was one of the youngest the first time and is now the oldest (84). This has never happened until today in Malaysian history. Malaysia has a rotating monarchy done every five years. The king is not elected or voted on by the people. There are nine states in Malaysia and each have a Sultan. I am assuming this is like our Governors. I am not sure how they become a Governor, probably same process as becoming the king. They already know who will be the next king five years from now. I posted a picture of the king and queen below.
Also I took some pictures of the Mandarin hotel across the street. I am not sure why but everytime something is going on in KL, things are happening at the Mandarin. I am sure there was some big party last night and they must have been having a breakfast this morning. I took a few pictures of all the black government cars and the police. It makes for interesting times living across the street.

David's Travels
I have decided to start posting where David is traveling to because I don't seem to be going anywhere. Rowan has two new rigs coming close by so David is out and about meeting vendors and getting things ready for the rigs. He didn't know this would be part of his job but I guess it falls under "other duties assigned". This week he is in Jakarta, Indonesia and next week he will be in Surabaya. I told him to please take some pictures so I can post them on the blog...we shall see.

Weekend
David had a stressful week so I decided to take him to a mall that he had not been to yet. Those of you that know David, know that he is not a shopper so this trip had to have a purpose. First we went to Popeye's to eat. He loves Popeye's and this was the first one we have seen in KL. He was a little disappointed because they did not have red beans and rice but we still enjoyed it. I told him I would get a recipe and make him red beans and rice. I will let you know how it turns out. Then I took him to a guitar shop. He had been wanting to get a stand for his guitar because I did not bring the one from home. Well not only did we get a guitar stand (actually two of them) but he got a new guitar. His birthday is coming up so he got his gift a little early.
The new one is on the left.
Saturday evening we had dinner with some friends so it was a good day. Sunday we went back to the Malaysia Philharmonic Orchestra to hear "The Pops". It was not as good as the Beatles had been but we enjoyed it. Then we went to our favorite restaurant "Chili's" for dinner with Brent and then we went to the movie. All in all we had a great weekend.
